If you are a busy individual like myself there are so many things we tend to do, or not do, rather than taking care of ourselves! And if your a parent, well you know everything else comes first, then just maybe, a few minutes to ourselves.

We create bad habits because we are too busy or simply because we just do not have the knowledge, or maybe the time. Why would we change when we think we’re doing the right thing?  We all get caught up in our day to day and everything becomes just so normal. For example, after your long day, jumping straight into your fluffy comfy bed, totally disregarding the things you should be doing, like WASHING THAT FACE!

Don’t stress it, I was one of those carefree mommas who just went to bed with makeup and what ever else the day piled up on my face, not really caring about what I was doing.

You Must Take Care!

You already know your skin is the largest organ of your body. It’s our first line of protection from everything inside, and although you may be born with amazing “I can do hat every I want” skin, believe me, everything you do, or don’t do now, will eventually catch up to you.

There are many habits we all are guilty of doing when it comes to our self-care and our skin, however, these are the top three BAD habits I believe you need to change right away:

1. STOP being such a dirty girl (or guy)

   Wash Your Face Before Bed- most of us do not even realize how much oil, dirt, and build-up we consume throughout our days even if you wash your face in the morning our bodies create oil and dirt all day long so going to bed with it on our face (not to mention what you put on your pillows if you do not daily) create clogged pores and eventually skin irritation and inflammation. Using a gentle cleanser with moisturizer every night will help prevent those breakouts we are not wanting trust me when I say just because you can not see it ohhh it is there.

2. STOP fighting the sun, you will not win

   So, you don’t want to use sunscreen? Um, your skin is the largest organ of your body, we need to protect our skin from those harmful UV light rays and not just on those summer days of sitting out on the lake. We especially need to protect our skin even on those overcast gloomy days when we don’t feel the heat.  The sun is a very powerful thing and those UV rays are bursting through the air damaging our skin with the chance of developing sun spots, premature aging skin, and even cancers. Use a high quality, non-toxic lotion with UV protection for your regular daily activities, and if you plan on being outdoors for 2 hours plus a day, use high quality, high SPF for extra protection.

3. STOP Poisoning yourself, please

   Did you know In the European Union, cosmetic products must “undergo an expert scientific safety assessment” before they can be sold to consumers? Under current rules in the U.S., the FDA can only act on a product that shows evidence of harm after it’s been introduced to the market. WOW!

   So, take the time to know what you putting on your body! 60-70% of anything you place on your skin is absorbed in your bloodstream within 26 seconds! Think about that for a second, and think about the random products you are choosing to place on your body without realizing it’s toxicity. For example, paraben is a chemical that is placed in most cosmetics and skincare. Parabens can act as a hormone such as estrogen that can disrupt the function of your hormonal system in both females and in males. It can also elevate the cellular level caused by ultraviolet exposure, which could potentially cause skin cancer and skin allergies. Please, be mindful of what you are actually putting on your body and take the time to research your products. You get what you pay for, that’s for sure.

Before I Cared…

Three years ago I did all of the above, I never washed my face before bed, always went to bed with makeup on, and I surely did not have any “skincare” regimen. Even in the morning, I just washed my face in the shower with whatever body wash I had at the time, and more often than not, it was probably the cheapest product I could find! I never even cared to use sunscreen, I don’t know how many times my husband ran after me at the lake or beach to cover me in sunscreen. I just did not think it was that important, and hello, I wanted to tan! On top of all that, I just had no idea, and just didn’t care what the heck a Paraben was. I thought “reading labels” was lame and I just trusted the products. I figured why would someone put harmful ingredients in products that could be toxic, we live in the USA, corporations care about us right?
